Florida lawyers persistence keeps home owners from foreclosure

Florida lawyers persistence and understanding of the process is working to keep some home owners from losing their home to foreclosure. Through the formation of FLASH - Florida Attorneys Saving Homes, Florida lawyers have volunteered to assist distressed home owners in working with their lenders to fend off foreclosure by workouts or loan modifications.

The process has not been an easy one as lawyers finding themselves often dealing with slow to respond or no responsive lenders. Having the persistence and knowledge has resulted in success however as documented by The Florida Bar News.

Hats off and a big thank you to the The Florida Bar; The Florida Bar Foundation; Florida Legal Services; the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section; the Business Law Section; the Young Lawyers Division; Attorneys Title Insurance Fund; and law schools whose joint effort has kept Florida families in their homes.

Lawyers and lenders working together should keep more Floridians in their homes

The goal is to keep Florida's homeowners from losing their homes in foreclosure and to that end Florida's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink has scheduled a roundtable, to be held April 20, 2009 in Tampa, will give lenders and pro bono lawyers the chance to discuss how to improve their communication and interaction, as they work together to help Floridians facing the threat of foreclosure. Florida Bar cautions lawyers about working with non lawyers on behalf of distressed homeowners

The Florida Bar News by Elizabeth Tarbert report deals with the ethics of lawyers working with non lawyers dealing with distressed home owners.

The report cautions lawyers against working with non lawyers "...involved in loan modifications, short sales, and other foreclosure-related rescue services on behalf of distressed homeowners."
