Online tool helps you build an environmentally friendly yard

This is a screenshot of a pretty cool tool I discovered while surfing for Florida information during today’s lunch break.

This tool allows you to play around with and learn how to make your yard more environmentally friendly by using Florida friendly plants that require less irrigation and fertilizer.

This interactive tool allows you to drag and drop planting beds into the virtual yard. Once you have the planting beds in place the site offers suggestions on the best plants for this area of the yard. You are provided a list of suggested plants that you might want to consider. After you are through you will be able to see images of what the yard will look like with your changes.

To view this tool visit Floridayards.org.

Florida asks that you recycle your political signs

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is asking everyone top please remember to recycle those campaign and political signs after the election on November 4th.

According to the DEP website, "Recycling paper materials like campaign signs keeps waste out of landfills and allows for the reuse of materials."

Is the home you are buying in a neighborhood that is environmentally friendly?

Perhaps you are considering purchasing a home in a specific area and you are curious about environmental issues for that neighborhood or area. You will be happy to note that the EPA has set up a web page that allows you to check an area by zip code for environmental issues.
