Supreme Court knocks amendment 5 off the ballot

From the decision:

The trial court ultimately held that the title and summary of proposed Amendment 5 did not fairly inform voters, in clear and unambiguous language, of the chief purposes of the amendment and ordered proposed Amendment 5 to be removed from the November 2008 general election ballot.

Florida Property Tax Amendment

Here are blog opinions on the upcoming vote :

"The big issue is whether the tax cuts would be enough to kick-start the economy and alleviate the housing market woes. My answer to that is: no, it wouldn't. It's simply not enough."
- 26th Parallel

"I am TIRED of the media failing to give Floridians ALL of the facts, so I have spent many months researching this issue and explaining why I am opposed to it. I want REAL tax reform, not a band-aid that perpetuates the problem."
-The Real Estate Sizzle

"Many of the same arguments used in opposition to Amendment 1 were similarly raised against the Save Our Homes amendment in 1992. The sky didn't fall after Save Our Homes and passed and it will not happen once Amendment 1 is approved."
-Right Democrat: A Mainstream Populist Voice

"This is a tough time to argue against property tax cuts for Floridians. Unemployment is rising, home sales are plummeting and the state is flirting with an economic recession. But Amendment 1 is not the answer, and voters should reject it and send a strong message to Tallahassee that they want property tax reform that is thoughtful and fair."
-Throwing Stones

"While Amendment 1 may not be the perfect panacea for runaway property taxes, it is a good first step toward meatier measures to reduce the tax burden on Florida’s homeowners. Even as we fully support passage of Amendment 1 we will also endorse better legislation when it comes our way."
